Seattle

We made a trip to Seattle this past weekend to run the Rock N Roll Half Marathon which by the way I had not trained for. It turned out to be a great run and I finished with one of my better times. 2 hours, 39 minutes. The weather turned out to be cooler than I expected so we made a quick trip to a sporting goods store to buy a light jacket.

After finishing the race, we treated ourselves with some local beer along with fish n chips.

We spent several days in Seattle and had good visits with the family. I knew the temperature would be in the 60s but I didn't know that it would feel so chilly all the time. It's really beautiful when its sunny in Seattle but its pretty gloomy most of the time. I need my sunshine, even if it is 100 degrees outside.

Lazy Week

What a lazy week this has been. Neal's been in Louisiana all week and boy am I glad he's home. For the first time, I got a little freaked out at night with him being gone. I used to live alone and have spent many nights by myself in the condo and in our house. I think it was because Mack kept barking all night which he never does. This got me thinking that I really should learn how to use a pistol. Not that I ever hope to have to defend myself, but it can't be a bad skill to have. There's a shooting center not far from here that offers an introductory ladies handgun class. I'm signed up for a class and couldn't be more excited!

Highlights of this week:
*Haven't worn make up since Monday
*Walked Mack every day
*Ran a little in anticipation of the big run next week in Seattle
*Mack got a haircut
*Went to the ghetto dentist I have to use because of my insurance
*Watched an obsence amount of Sex and the City
*Laid out at the pool at Lifetime, after I worked out of course

Love the summer!

Texas!

This weekend went to the natural science museum to see the Texas exhibit. I got a really good deal for the tickets through a Groupon.

I don't think either one of us knew what to expect. This turned out to be a wonderful refresher of the history of our great state. Yes, we all took Texas History in the 7th grade, but that was a long time ago. Some of the cool things we saw were the actual "come and take it" cannon from the Battle of Gonzales and Davy Crockett's fiddle. I loved this exhibit so much that I even bought a Texas history book. God Bless Texas!

Return to Costa Rica

I could really get used to going to Costa Rica every couple of months. Although we were just there in March, it didn't take long for us to be convinced by our friends to go back. Chris and Christy were a lot of fun to travel with. We stayed in Tamarindo this time which is a little surfing town. Nothing fancy. Once again we did a canopy and horseback riding adventure. The zip line was more amazing than last time. I think that was the last time I will ever be on a horse. We rode the horses to the top of a mountain which had a spectuacular view. Paid the price for it though. The ride was rough and we had the battle scars to prove it. This was rainy season and although it rained a lot, we still had a great time. Everything was more lush this time because of the rain. On our last day, we went on a sunset cruise which was amazing. This country is truly a piece of God's work. Gorgeous! Great trip and I wonder how soon we can go back.

Go Green

Today Reesa and I rode our bikes to good ol SBE since it was a work day and we could wear shorts. The ride would not have been pretty if we had to wear professional clothes since it was a little warm. It only took us about 17 minutes and we were safe on the sidewalks the whole time. I only wish the kids could have seen us because I think they would have gotten a kick out of it. Here's a to a great summer!

The End is Here

Today was the last day of school at SBE. We have a work day tomorrow but this year has finally come to an end. This year has definitely been a trying year with our working conditions. The poor building was literally being held together with bandaids. My winters of having no heat in my room are a thing of the past. We had to pack our whole campus in these yellow boxes which are being stored over the summer until our new building is ready (hopefully by August).




This week, it was necessary to start the asbestos abatement so the building will be ready to demolish next week. These mysterious black curtains appeared in my wing. Lots of noises were coming from behind them. I chose to work inside the main building this week. I've probably been breathing the asbestos for the past 2 years but why not take precautions now!





Today we had the opportunity to walk the new building. I'm pretty sure this is going to be my new room. I hope so because that window is priceless! This is the first year I think I've been excited about the new school year even before we're done with this one. I tend to change schools every 3-4 years so I'll give it at least 1 more year and then may make a change. Change keeps life interesting.




Finally, this is how I know summer has arrived. We're already hitting the 100 degree mark in the afternoons. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I am in no way a cold weather girl so I'll take this blazing heat any day over the ridiculous arctic blasts we had this year. Yea, summer is here!

Sleeping Beauty

Hmmmmm.....yesterday after school, I took a 2 hour nap. Something I never do. Today Neal is the one napping for a long time. Maybe we're a little tired?
